Compare the Formats
Board & Train vs. Lessons vs. In-Home Training
The biggest decision is not the program — it is who does the daily practice and where it happens. Here is how the three formats differ.
| Board & Train | Training Center Lessons | In-Home Lessons | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Where it happens | Your dog lives and trains with a professional trainer | Private lessons at 2245 Carolina Beach Rd, Wilmington | In your own home and neighborhood |
| Who practices daily | The trainer, every day; you learn everything at the turnover session | You, between lessons, coached by the trainer | You, where your dog’s habits actually happen |
| Length | 7 days or 2 weeks | 1 to 8 private lessons | 4 or 8 private lessons |
| Price | $1,600 or $2,800 | $375 to $1,000 | $1,000 or $1,500 |
| Included | E-collar and a full turnover session; lifetime refresher on the 2-week program* | Private instruction for your whole household | Travel within 15 miles of Wilmington; e-collar on the 8-lesson track |
| Best for | Busy households, beach-level off-leash recall, the fastest route to results | Owners who want to learn hands-on, and a low-cost first step | Door manners, guests, kids, and dogs that travel poorly |

- Lunges or barks at other dogs
The Dog Aggression Package ($1,000, 8 private lessons) builds obedience first, then structured desensitization.
- New puppy biting, chewing, or having accidents
Book the one-hour puppy consultation ($100); formal obedience begins around 5 months.
- Won’t come back off-leash at the beach
Full off-leash Recall is the centerpiece of the 2-week board & train ($2,800).
- No time to train during the week
Board & train does the daily work for you; in-home lessons fit around a home schedule.
- You want a therapy dog
Therapy Dog Development ($950, 7 lessons) starts with an evaluation and prepares you for testing.
- You need a task-trained service dog
Service dog training begins with a required 1-hour consultation ($100).
- You want a recognized good-manners title
The AKC Canine Good Citizen program ($600) trains all 10 test skills and includes certification.

Choosing a Service
Questions About Choosing a Service
Which dog training service is best if I work full-time?
Board & train. Your dog practices every day with a professional trainer while you are at work, and you learn every command at the turnover session. If you would rather be part of each session, in-home lessons fit around a home schedule.
Why do in-home lessons cost more than lessons at the training center?
In-home lessons bring the trainer to your house, with travel within 15 miles of Wilmington included. The same 4-lesson basic track is $650 at our Carolina Beach Road center and $1,000 in your home.
Can I combine two services?
Yes. Many families pair in-home lessons, which fix household habits, with center lessons that add controlled distractions. Graduates can also add the 4-lesson Advanced Obedience package ($400) for tighter off-leash precision.
Which services include an e-collar?
Both board & train programs and the 8-lesson in-home track include one, and the trainer shows you how to use it properly. For any other package, ask during your free phone consultation.
Do I need a consultation before I book?
Only service dog training requires a paid 1-hour consultation ($100) before training starts. For everything else, the phone consultation is free and optional — you can book directly from the pricing page.
How do I pay for a training package?
Choose a package on the pricing page and pay online, or call (910) 622-7987. Packages are paid in full before scheduling, and a 3.00% card surcharge may apply at checkout.
