Meet The Off Leash K9 Team

Jan Morgan Metzger- Trainer

Jan has been dedicated to dogs her entire life. She has owned German Shepherds for over 40 years and has been rescuing German Shepherds and Belgian Malinois since 2007. She served as the NC Adoptions Coordinator for Southeast German Shepherd Rescue placing thousands of dogs in forever homes and fostering more than 150 German Shepherds and Belgian Malinois in her home. Somehow, Jan still finds time today to assist GSD’s in need of rescue.

Jan traveled the world as the daughter of a retired Air Force LTC, so she fully understands structure and consistency.

Jan holds a Master’s Degree in Education with National Board Certification and taught in the NC public school system for 20 years, specializing in children with severe disabilities and behavioral challenges. Jan incorporates her professional teaching expertise and techniques to equip her clients in achieving a confident, obedient dog! She structures the environment through confidence building, trust, and shaping which are the core to developing the success of dogs and children alike so they can navigate everyday life.

Jan’s tripaw GSD, Timber, passed in May 2021 and his memory thrives through his work in the community as a therapy dog. Her Belgian Malinois, Bear, is trained in detection and demos advanced commands for eager clients and assists in training sessions.

As a trainer with Off Leash, Jan often takes on more advanced and challenging training work – including Foundations for Service Dogs, Therapy Dogs, and dogs with anxiety and reactive behaviors! Jan has a serious following in Wilmington, over the years and earned her the go-to trainer in Wilmington for all dogs especially GSD’s and clients that really need a “specialized” approach.

Hannah Mack - Trainer

She has traveled as a horse trainer in the past, and was a personal riding instructor. Her training philosophy is understanding animals and communicating with them in a way they naturally understand. Every single animal she has had from her two, previously misunderstood horses, Snow and Eowyn, to her formerly aggressive Labrador mix, Mavryc, has taught her something about life, training, communication and love. Hannah has personal experience with aggressive dogs as Mavryc, her Labrador mix was neglected and aggressive. The very first day Hannah had Mavryc, Mavryc attacked her. It was a pivotal moment where Hannah made a personal commitment to help Mavryc overcome her fears and weaknesses. This process came with many challenges, failures and successes. Hannah realized Mavryc needed structure, discipline, confidence building, understanding and trust. As is sometimes the case, changes, whether small or big, often challenge our pets and when Phoenix, Hannah’s baby was born, Mavryc relapsed into full aggression. It took months of routine, positive association and patience to help Mavryc understand there was no threat with this new “little being” in the home.

About 2 years later, Hannah and her husband, Duell, welcomed their son, Arrow. Mavryc had become a different dog, and she welcomed the second baby into the home graciously and understood how to be the dog Hannah wanted. As a result of Hannah’s experiences, she understands the trials and challenges which lead many people to ask, “Should I rehome my dog?” We can’t promise we can fix the issues many dogs are having but we can help you understand your dog better. We can train and assist you in becoming a confident leader so you can manage the environment so your dog has success. Hannah’s goal is to assist you in understanding your dog, the language they speak daily through body language and improve your command and relationship with your pet. If you can better understand your dog, you not only have the ability to communicate with them clearly what you want, but also, you are able to read what they need. Hannah enjoys spending time on her farm.  Hannah specializes in working with client dogs who have reactivity issues and helping you understand how to better control and demonstrate confidence in handling your dog. We are excited to have Hannah Mack as part of our East Coast OLK9 Team here in Wilmington, NC!

Bradley McKee - Trainer

Bradley McKee – Bradley has been around dogs all of his life. His mother was a German Shepherd breeder in Chicago, Illinois for 20 years. You could always find Bradley with a German Shepherd by his side and he often jokes he was, “raised by wolves.”

Before moving to NC in 2019, he was known to volunteer at shelters in the Chicago area. Since the move he worked towards various certifications in dog behavioral training which led him to Off Leash K9 Training.

Prior to Off Leash K9 Training, Bradley has over 7 years of experience training people in a challenging corporate world. So not only is he qualified to train dogs, but he’s also qualified to teach people how to interact with their dogs. Bradley is one of the top students in his graduation class in 2022 with the Animal Behavior College Program – scoring a perfect 100 on his final exam! Bradley loves spending time hiking and working with his own dog Mr. Hiccup Barker.

We are privileged to have an individual with dog and people training experience! Welcome Bradley to Off Leash K9!

Kristin Roberts- Trainer

Kristin Roberts – grew up with horses and dogs being part of her life. This quickly developed into a strong passion and motivation driving her to devote 4 years of high school focusing strictly on animal science classes. She also spent much of her time in a vet assistance program. Kristin is from the Wake Forest, NC area where she volunteered with the SPCA and Hope Reins for 5 years. Kristin moved to Wilmington, NC in 2022. It was during that time she adopted Koda, a Great Pyrenees, who was very reactive towards dogs and people. Koda nearly pulled her down multiple times and was impossible to control in any public situation. It was then Kristin found Off Leash K9 Training as a client and after her first lesson, she immediately knew she wanted to do this full time. Kristin is a dog lover first, and a dog trainer second. Because of her unique experience with Koda, Kristin knows first-hand the difference dog training makes in the relationship between dog and owner. Without professional training it can sometimes be a frustrating relationship, but with an investment in good training a wonderful transformation will occur. Kristin strives to bring this same relationship to your experience with OLK9!
