Meet The Off Leash K9 Team

Jan Metzger- Trainer

Jan has been dedicated to dogs her entire life. She has owned German Shepherds for over 40 years and has been rescuing German Shepherds and Belgian Malinois since 2007. She served as the NC Adoptions Coordinator for Southeast German Shepherd Rescue placing thousands of dogs in forever homes and fostering more than 150 German Shepherds and Belgian Malinois in her home. Somehow, Jan still finds time today to assist GSD’s in need of rescue.

Jan traveled the world as the daughter of a retired Air Force LTC, so she fully understands structure and consistency. Jan lives in Wilmington with her 2  boys.

Jan holds a Master’s Degree in Education with National Board Certification and taught in the NC public school system for 20 years, specializing in the education of children with severe disabilities and behavioral challenges. Jan incorporates her professional teaching expertise and techniques to equip her clients in achieving a confident, obedient dog! She structures the environment through confidence building, trust, and shaping which are the core to developing the success of dogs and children alike so they can navigate everyday life.

Jan’s tripaw GSD, Timber, passed in May 2021 and his memory thrives through his work in the community as a therapy dog. Her Belgian Malinois, Bear, is trained in detection and demos advanced commands for eager clients and assists in training sessions.

As a trainer with Off Leash, Jan is the person potential clients speak to initially via phone conversation. During training she often takes on more advanced and challenging training work – including Foundations for Service Dogs, Therapy Dogs, and dogs with anxiety and reactive behaviors! Jan has a serious following in Wilmington, over the years and earned her the go-to trainer in Wilmington for all dogs especially GSD’s and clients that really need a “specialized” approach.

Lance Morgan- Trainer Assistant

Lance has spent his entire life surrounded by canines. His passion for dogs began at a young age, assisting with German Shepherd Rescues and participating in adoption events. He later served as camera assistant for his mother, recording her training sessions. Over time, he frequently appeared in clips featuring dogs that had undergone training. He is currently enrolled in the Mechanical Engineering Program at NCSU.  He loves working on his Corvette in his spare time and boarding and training dogs.

Bradley McKee - Trainer

Bradley McKee – Bradley has been around dogs all of his life. Raised alongside German Shepherds through his mother’s breeding program in Chicago, Illinois, dogs were never a hobby for him. They were part of the household, the routine, and the foundation of how he understands behavior, structure, and trust. He often jokes that he was “raised by wolves,” but that early immersion shaped a lifelong respect for working dogs and clear communication.

Before relocating to North Carolina in 2019, Bradley volunteered with shelters throughout the Chicago area, gaining hands-on experience with dogs of all temperaments, backgrounds, and behavioral challenges. After the move, he pursued formal education and certifications in canine behavior and training, a path that ultimately led him to Off Leash K9 Training. He graduated in 2022 from the Animal Behavior College Program as one of the top students in his class, earning a perfect score on his final exam.

Bradley is both an AKC-Approved Evaluator and a Certified Service Dog Instructor, allowing him to assess temperament, obedience, and public access reliability with professional precision. His work emphasizes ethical training, real-world functionality, and long-term success for both dogs and handlers. He understands that training is not just about commands, but about building dependable partnerships rooted in clarity, consistency, and confidence.

In addition to his canine credentials, Bradley brings over seven years of experience training people in high-pressure corporate environments. This background gives him a unique ability to educate handlers with patience, structure, and accountability. He excels at translating complex behavioral concepts into practical, everyday tools owners can actually use, ensuring progress continues well beyond formal sessions.

Outside of training, Bradley enjoys hiking and working with his own dog, Mr. Hiccup Barker, continually refining his skills through real-life application. Off Leash K9 Training is proud to have a professional who brings together deep canine knowledge, human coaching expertise, and nationally recognized credentials to every team he works with.

Kristin Roberts- Trainer

Kristin Roberts – grew up with horses and dogs being part of her life. This quickly developed into a strong passion and motivation driving her to devote 4 years of high school focusing strictly on animal science classes. She also spent much of her time in a vet assistance program. Kristin is from the Wake Forest, NC area where she volunteered with the SPCA and Hope Reins for 5 years. Kristin moved to Wilmington, NC in 2022. It was during that time she adopted Koda (who has since passed away), a Great Pyrenees, who was very reactive towards dogs and people. Koda nearly pulled her down multiple times and was quite impossible to control in any public situation. It was then Kristin found Off Leash K9 Training, as a client and after her first lesson, she immediately knew she wanted to do this full time. Kristin is a dog lover first, and a dog trainer second. After the traumatic loss of Koda one of her dear clients located a litter of guardian breed puppies and “gifted” her Ryder. You may see him featured in her truck sporting his goggles going down the road or in public spaces. He knows he is a “cool dog.”

Kristin loves the outdoors and being around water. She is best known for her OLK9 videos at all kinds of high distraction locations such as the mall, downtown and large box top stores.

Because of her unique experience with Koda, Kristin knows first-hand the difference dog training makes in the relationship between dog and owner. Without professional training it can sometimes be a frustrating relationship, but with an investment in good training a wonderful transformation will occur. Kristin strives to bring this same relationship to your experience with OLK9!
